Washington State’s Rules and Regulations about Window Tint Film Packages
Have you been cautious about booking window tinting for your vehicle for fear that your ride may somehow violate the rules and regulations of the road? We understand that many customers do not know Washington’s legalities of window tint film, so our team has decided to research them and simplify them for you.
When it comes to window tinting for vehicles, there are two distinct areas where the rules of the road apply: darkness and reflectiveness. Reflectiveness is different than darkness. With window tint film darkness, Visible Light Transmission (VLT) is how that darkness is measured, whereas metallic versus non-metallic is how reflectivity is gauged. At Parker's Detailing Co we only offer traditional window tint options with our carbon or ceramic window tint packages.
Right here in Washington (including our home location of Gig Harbor), all size vehicles can have a non-reflective windshield strip that covers the top 6 inches of their windshield. Front driver and passenger side windows on both sedans and larger vehicles must allow up to 24% of Visible Light Transmission (VLT) in. The rear windows and rear windshields of smaller sedans and vehicles alike have a requirement of 24% VLT for rear windows and windshields, whereas larger vehicles do NOT have a regulation to follow in this category.
As we shift to the reflectivity of our carbon or ceramic window tint film packages here at Parker’s Detailing Co, no vehicle large or small can have a window tint film package that is any more than 35% reflective.
